The Parco Nazionale del Cilento e del Vallo di Diano guards and protects the area so that it remains intact and can be used by the widest number of visitors who will be pleasantly surprised by its many sights. The tastes of the Cilento add to hiking in the hills and days spent at the beach: homemade fusilli and cavatelli even just served with extra virgin olive oil fruit of the olive trees which play an important role in the landscape of the hills of the Cilento (the "Cilento" and "Colline Salernitane" oils bear the D.O.P. (denominazione di origine protetta label). Anchovies from Menaica, buffalo milk mozzarella and tomatoes are the ingredients of the original Cilento Mediterranean diet. All served with a good white, red or rose "Cilento" wine which together with Castel San Lorenzo are the park's DOC (denominazione di origine controllata) wines. An experience with thousands of facets, the Cilento is not to be missed. |
Ancient cradle of civilization, home of Parmenides Eleatic School which gave an extraordinary impetus to the development of Western philosophical thought. Theater of myths lost in the mists of time, where Ulysses encountered the Sirens and Palinuro was shipwrecked. Uncontaminated nature where the Golden eagle flies and Sea Daffodils blossom. The Cilento, an incomparable heritage of nature, art, history and legend which Unesco has added to its World Heritage List.
